Copyright: Brian Smith, BTS Internet Services A statue in the Argual district of Los Llanos depicting the pre-electricity method of moving water in the banana plantations. A gourd was fixed to a pole, the person sits down with the pole across one knee then scoops the water from the lower tank and raises it to the upper level by a combination of pushing down on the end of the pole to leverage the water upwards.
The traditional method is kept alive by a local club which gives demonstrations and encourages young people to get involved.
