Isla de La Palma

Roque de los MuchachosDeze pagina in Nederlands
Roques de los Muchachos is the name given to the highest point on La Palma. Actually it is the name of the small group of rocks at the top, but the name refers to the whole area and the astronomical observatory.
There are good quality, but twisting, roads leading to a small car park at the very top at 2545m above sea level. The area provides magnificent views over the island, the largest erosion crater in the world 'Calderdade Taburiente' and often views across to 3 more Canary Islands, Tenerife, La Gomera and El Hierro.
The area around the observatory is closed to the public from sunset to sunrise because car headlights cause interference in the telescope observations.
