You can walk from the Roque de Los Muchachos to the 'Cresta' for a better view into the Caldera. The neighbouring island of La Gomera can be seen in the distance.
Safety note: This is not advisable if there are strong winds or clouds in or above the Caldera.

At 2426m above sea level it can be cold, even freezing in the heart of winter. On this day it was just a few degrees above freezing, there was a biting wind and the clouds were swirling around the Roque and the telescopes. Gerard and Helen (Lelystad, Netherlands) had been forewarned and were well wrapped but didn't stay too long ;-)
About half a kilometer down the road the sun was shining and the jackets came off again.
The rest of the island had bright sunshine all day.
